Head of Catholic Charities USA to speak at "Breakfast with the Bishop"
Father Larry Snyder, president of Catholic Charities USA, will join Bishop Frederick Campbell at Catholic Social Services’ 18th annual Breakfast with the Bishop at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in the grand ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 400 N. High St., Columbus.
Catholic Charities USA is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It is the national office for more than 1,700 local Catholic Charities agencies and institutions that provide help and create hope for more than 9.25 million people a year, regardless of their religious, social, or economic background.
Father Snyder led the network’s response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, its largest disaster recovery effort ever. He continues to lead its work to reduce poverty in America, a multiyear, multifaceted initiative to cut poverty in half by 2020.
President Obama appointed Father Snyder to the President’s Council of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. The Nonprofit Times has recognized him twice in its “Power and Influence Top 50.” Pope Benedict XVI named him to the Pontifical Council Cor Unum. As the president of Caritas North America, he also serves as a vice president of Caritas International. He sits on the boards of the Catholic Health Association, America’s Promise Alliance, and the Independent Sector. He is a member of the domestic policy committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Bishop Campbell and Father Snyder will concelebrate a special Mass together for representatives of diocesan Catholic charities at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St |
