Ignatius of Loyola program planned at Sts. Peter and Paul Retreat Center
Sts. Peter and Paul Retreat Center, 2734 Seminary Road S.E., Newark, will sponsor three programs on “Ignatius of Loyola: His Gift to the Church” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on three successive Tuesdays: Sept. 14, 21, and 28.
For more than 450 years, the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola has drawn men and women into a deeper intimacy with God and a renewed energy to be of service to others. Ignatius, a true mystic, centered his spiritual life on the essential foundations of Christian spirituality: the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus and our desire to come to know, love, and follow him more wholeheartedly.
Ignatius founded the Jesuit order, and the core of his experience is expressed in the Jesuit motto ad majorem Dei gloriam – “for the greater glory of God.”
The legacy of Ignatian spirituality is deeply rooted in becoming more aware of what is happening in our daily experience, of finding God in all things. Ignatius understood that God is an active God, ever at work in people’s lives. By our baptism, we are called to be attentive to this active God and promptly respond.
This will be an evening of balanced input and silence so that participants can experience the fruits of God’s spirit animating their own lives.
The facilitator for the program will be Sister Janice Bachman, OP, a Dominican Sister of Peace from Columbus who is a spiritual director and retreat director. For the past 13 years, she has been involved in the training of spiritual directors at the Wellstreams program in Columbus and Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. She holds a master’s degree from Creighton and a diploma in analytical psychology from the Ontario Association of Jungian Analysts,
The cost of the program is $10 for each of the three sessions. Each program will begin with dessert and coffee from 6:30 to 7. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 7. For more information, call (740) 928-4246. |
