Dr. Peter Cimbolic named President of Ohio Dominican University
The Ohio Dominican University Board of Trustees has announced that Peter Cimbolic, Ph.D. will serve as the University’s next president.
Dr. Cimbolic will assume his presidential duties for a five-year contract beginning on July 1 of this year.
He currently serves as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. He also holds academic rank as a tenured full professor of psychology.
Like Ohio Dominican, which was founded in 1911 by the Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs (now the Dominican Sisters of Peace), Marywood was founded in 1915 by the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And like Ohio Dominican, it is an independent, comprehensive, Catholic coeducational institution. Marywood serves approximately 3,400 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.
In making the announcement, Galen Barnes, Chairman of the ODU Board of Trustees, said, “We are pleased that we have attracted Peter Cimbolic to our open president’s position. Peter has extensive experience with Catholic institutions of higher learning. We are confident that he will lead us in achieving our Path to Preeminence, the strategic plan the Board of Trustees approved a few years ago. Peter’s warmth, extensive knowledge of higher education, academic experience in the classroom, and outstanding leadership abilities will serve ODU well in the years ahead. We are particularly excited that Peter is joining us as Ohio Dominican University prepares to celebrate its Centennial in 2011.”
In accepting the presidential appointment, Dr. Cimbolic said, “I am honored and humbled by the confidence placed in me by the Board of Trustees to serve as president
of Ohio Dominican University. As the University enters into its second century of
providing the highest quality education in a student-centered environment, I believe ODU will reach new heights on its Path to Preeminence, continuing to be inspired by its Catholic and Dominican roots. I look forward to being part of the transformative power of ODU as it continues to impact and improve the lives of the students and the community it serves.”
Dr. Cimbolic replaces Ron Seiffert, who has served as Interim President for the last year, while the search for a new president was underway. “We have been blessed with Ron’s capable leadership and dedication to the University, and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I cannot thank him enough for what he has done for ODU. Ron has led a talented group of administrative staff and together, they have moved ODU forward. Most notably, during this period of interim administration, Ron has overseen the dedication of the Bishop James A. Griffin Student Center and commencement of construction of the new science building, Battelle Hall. Ron and the rest of the administrative team will continue to provide strong support for Peter as he takes the reins as our new president,” Barnes said.
