The Liturgy Sub-commission
of the
Diocesan Liturgical Commission
The objective of the Liturgy Sub-commission is to assist the Bishop and the Diocese of Columbus in studying and recommending pastoral methods for implementation of liturgical rituals, policies and procedures in accordance with the liturgical norms of the Church. Catechetical and educational events organized and presented by the Sub-commission facilitate the implementation of liturgical practices.
The work of the sub-commission is guided by the documents of the church on liturgy made available through the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB):
General Instruction on the Roman Missal (GIRM)
The Norms for Distribution of Holy Communion in the US (NORMS)
and additional instructions like the Instruction on the Eucharist (RS)
This sub-commission works with the Office of Liturgy in the development of liturgical handbooks which explain and promote liturgical practices which help those involved in the particular ministry comply with the liturgical vision of the universal Church. The Following handbooks are currently available:
The Ministry of the Assembly
The Ministry of Lector
The Ministry of Ushers & Greeters
The Ministry of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
The Ministry of Servers
The Bishop Committee on the Liturgy (BCL), part of the USCCB, has also published "Guidelines for Altar Servers"
The sub-commission will also work to develop diocesan guidelines that help us understand the Church’s rituals and provide a more uniform method for their celebration throughout the diocese.
