The Office for Divine Worship was established to support the Bishop in his role as the chief liturgist for the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Columbus. The office supports the bishop in his role through the preparation of liturgies celebrated by the people of the diocese (i.e. Ordinations, Chrism Mass, Rite of Election, etc.). The office also helps parishes and groups in their celebrations of Episcopal Liturgies (Mass or special prayer services with the bishop). There is a four page planning form: Planning an Episcopal Liturgy, which will help communicate the unique needs for these liturgies.

Each diocese is asked to provide a yearly liturgical calendar identifying the unique days of celebration for the diocese. The Office of Liturgy prepares the Diocesan Liturgical Calendar (click here for 2010/2011 and 2011/2012) for the bishop and makes it available to all parishes. Included in the calendar is a list of important liturgical dates for the following year to help the parishes in their planning.

Every year most parishes have scheduled the celebration of Confirmation in which the bishop comes to celebrate. A new planning form has been prepared. This form is a pull-out in the new booklet from the diocese for the Celebration of Confirmation in the Diocese of Columbus. The booklet is also available online in two pdf format files; The Celebration of Confirmation, and the Confirmation Planning Form.

The Office for Divine Worship is also a resource for parishes, groups and individuals who need clarification on liturgical issues. The Office is always preparing various articles to help inform those wishing to know more about the liturgy.  These articles appear in the Catholic Times.

The Office for Divine Worship is a member of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions and Worship Offices (FDLC), a grass roots organization sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop - Bishop’s Committee on Devine Worship (BCDW). Our office and liturgy commission works with the offices and liturgy commissions for other diocese to bring about clarification and provide supporting documentation on all aspects of our liturgies.
